BALANGA CITY (PIA) — For motorists, from jeepney drivers to cargo haulers navigating the Junction Layac-Balanga-Mariveles Port Road every day, smoother trips and fewer bumps are now part of their daily routine following the completion of an asphalt overlay project in Abucay, Bataan.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed 582 linear meters of asphalt overlay with an 80-millimeter thickness along key road sections.

Improvements cover 516 linear meters in Barangay Mabatang and 66 linear meters in Barangay Calaylayan, funded at P33.57 million under the 2025 national budget.

DPWH Bataan 1st District Engineer John Paolo Tan emphasized that the project addresses both safety and convenience for road users.

“This initiative marks a crucial step in improving local infrastructure and ensuring safer and more efficient transportation for residents and commuters in Bataan,” Tan said.

Considered a vital route for local commuters and cargo transport, portions of the Junction Layac-Balanga-Mariveles Port Road are expected to benefit further from the smoother road surface.

By extending pavement life, the project also reduces the risk of accidents and makes travel more reliable for the public.

The development supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Build Better More program, which promotes modern infrastructure and better road connectivity to strengthen communities and local economies. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
