CLARK FREEPORT – Even in the twilight of the Arroyo administration, this freeport continues to lure investors as the Clark Development Corp. (CDC) announced yesterday that 27 new locators are moving in with investments worth P25.4 billion.
At the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA), the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) said Pacific Flier, a cargo airlines, has started world-class cargo operations with the recent shipping of 15 tons of tuna to other countries.
“This proves that DMIA can handle such kind of cargo operations and we have the capability to do this,” Asia Foundation director Captain Ben Solis said.
CDC president and chief executive officer Benigno Ricafort said that agreements on the 27 new projects here were signed from last January to April. They bring to a total of 893 the number of locaters here. The new investors are to employ 1,600 folk, he said.
In a report, the CDC marketing department said the 27 firms would comprise “the biggest investment haul in a year” and they committed to invest P25 billion in the next five years.
Marketing Manager Rafael Galvez also told Ricafort that four projects signed in April alone committed P88 million in investments. Three of the investors were foreigners.
CDC identified the new foreign investors as Australian Ausphilsolution Corporation, Japanese firm Epic Waters Inc., Korea’s MPN Global Amusement Corporation, and V&R Star Trading. They will locate in the Philexel Business park under a sub-lease agreement.
Galvez said Ausphilsoluition is “exclusively engaged in the business of call, customer service or contract center foreign clients and markets, as well inbound customer service that will include but not limited to processing of transactions of clients.”
“Outbound customer service will include selling long distance service of clients,” he added.
Galvez said that on the other hand, Epic Clearwaters is engaged in trading of activated carbon, involving “sourcing of locally available raw materials, specifically activated carbon, processing and exporting the same to other countries (primarily to Japan & China and to import high-grade ceramics blocks as intermediate raw materials from Japan for processing and mixing with locally-sourced activated carbon to produce a water filtration medium product for export to different countries.”
The MPN will operate as a warehousing project for repackaging of locally produced consumer goods for 100 percent export to Middle East, South Africa and other Asian countries, he also said.
The continued growth of investments in Clark is a manifestation of the economic agenda of Pres. Arroyo to entice the entry of more foreign investors to generate economic and employment activities,” Ricafort said.
Meanwhile at the DMIA, Solis said that at the airport here, 50 to 60 tons of tuna fish will be flown daily to Japan and other countries.
