BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Police on Monday launched in Bataan “Implementation Plan Clean Riders” to lessen if not totally eradicate the commission of crimes involving the use of motorcycles.

“Implan Clean Riders” was launched by the provincial police intelligence branch (PIIB) at Camp Tolentino in Balanga City. Officials of motorcycle riders’ organizations, barangay and municipal officials and Chiefs of Police from 11 towns and one city attended the event.

Supt. Mario Ramos, PIIB chief, said that offenses involving motorcycle-riding suspects or criminals in the country have become disturbing and have to be addressed.

In Bataan for year 2011, 20 crimes were committed by motorcycle-riding suspects with eight murder and 12 robbery cases.“If not stopped, this will affect the business climate in the community,” Ramos said.

Senior Supt. Ricardo Zapata, Bataan police director, said police are thinking of the welfare of citizens in the launching of the project.

“Ito’ybilang pangangalaga sa kapakanan ng mamamayan at mga law-abiding motorcycle riders,” he said.

He asked media not to use the term riding in tandem in reporting crimes about motorcycle riders but instead motorcycle-riding suspects or criminals.

He called on all sectors to assist the police in the project while directing the town police chiefs to implement the plan vigorously.

Gilbert Izon, secretary of Bataan Eagle Motorcycle Club, described the police plan as good. “Baka maiwasan ang carnapping ng mga motorsiklo dahil identified ang tunay na may-ari,” he said. The organization has 50 active members.

Under the plan, “Checkpoint Oplan Sita” will continue but more rigid. All motorcycle owners are required to apply for stickers and identification cards from the police.
