MALOLOS CITY—Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines Jorge Manuel Domecq is expected to grace a three-day  history conference here.

Dubbed as “El Pueblo Soberano 200”, the conference will be held at the Barasoain Center for Innovative Education (BarCIE Center) here on September 13.

The conference is part of Bulacan’s annual Singkaban Fiesta with the theme “Lalawigang Huwaran ang Pamahalaan, Tahanan ng Dakilang Lahi, Sentro ng kasaysayan ng Bansa—Bulacan, sa daigdig ay ibandila.”

The eight-day festival will be marked with austerity measures as the province still reels from the effects of the recent calamity.

Board Member Michael Fermin, chair of the committee on culture of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bulacan, said that Samahang Pang-kasaysayan ng Bulacan has invited the ambassador to the conference.

He said that the history conference is part of the province’s commemoration of the 114th anniversary of the Congreso Revolucionario of 1898 in Barasoain Church which coincides with the 200th anniversary of the first Spanish Constitution of 1812.

As this developed, the Singkaban Fiesta will be highlighted by the historical shows like the “Kakarong Show” and the exhibition on the life of Eusebio Roque, the hero of Kakarong De Sili  popularly known as “Maestrong Sebio.”

Provincial Administrator Jim Valerio said the Kakarong show will focus on the establishment of the Kakarong Republic which is acknowledged as the first republic in the country.

Located at Pandi town, the Kakarong Republic was established by Maestrong Sebio on December 4, 1896.

However, it fell after the Spanish Cazadores attacked on January 1, 1897.

The Kakarong Show will be shown at the Nicanor Abelardo Auditorium from September 8 to 15. Show time will start at 9AM and 1PM.

Along with the show, the provincial government has organized the Dakilang Bulakenyo Series, an exhibition of Bulacan heroes that will feature Maestrong Sebio this year.

Meanwhile, the provincial government held a soft opening of the Singkaban Fiesta on Saturday.
