ANGELES CITY- This province will soon have yet another state university after the House approved recently on third and final reading the bill of this city’s Rep. Carmelo Lazatin to make the Pampanga Agricultural College (PAC) in Magalang town a state university.

The approved bill also provides the renaming of the school as the Diosdado Macapagal Agriculture and Science State University (DMASSU).

Lazatin’s House Bill No. 4405 has been sent to the Senate for consolidation with the already approved Senate version and for final approval.

“This is a major victory for quality education as the college, if eventually turned into a state university, will provide quality and advanced education particularly in the field of agriculture and science, “ said Lazatin.

He said that under his bill, the DMASSU “will provide advanced education, higher technological, professional instruction and training in the fields of agriculture, arts and sciences, teacher education, industrial technology and engineering, information technology, business management and accountancy, nontraditional courses and other relevant fields of study.”

“The DMASSU will undertake research, extension services and production activities while providing progressive leadership in its areas of specialization,” he also said.

The bill also allows DMASSU to “offer undergraduate and graduate courses in the fields of agriculture, arts and sciences, teacher education, industrial technology and engineering, information technology, business management and accountancy, tourism, health services and other courses within its areas of specialization and according to its capabilities.”

Last year, the Don Honorio Ventura College of Arts and Trades, Asia’s first vocational school, was also declared a state university upon the initiation of 3rd district Rep. Aurelio Gonzalez.
