ABUCAY, Bataan – A woman who was alone died when a landslide buried their house in an upland area here apparently at the height of heavy rains at dawn of Saturday.
A big portion of Bataan experienced heavy rains night of Friday to dawn of Saturday.
Maj. Dennis Bautista Duran, Abucay police chief, said rescuers dug out Roselyn dela Cruz, 27, caretaker of Labangan Resort in Hacienda Gabon, already dead under their house buried in mud.
A car was also buried by the landslide.
Duran estimated that it was at about 2 AM that the landslide happened based on the condition of the body of the victim when found. “Matigas na ang katawan ng biktima nang makuha sa natabunang bahay.”
He said that the father of the victim who was residing in another house discovered the incident at 7 a.m. and called for help.
Personnel of the Abucay municipal police station, Bureau of Fire Protection, municipal disaster risk reduction and management office, Metro Bataan Development Authority and the local government unit of Abucay led by Mayor Robin Tagle conducted search and rescue operation that turned to a search and retrieval one.
Duran said personnel of the provincial disaster risk reduction management office and the Bureau of Mines and Geosciences in Region 3 were arriving to assess the area and to determine what caused the landslide to avoid a repeat of the incident.
Grieving relatives begged off to be interviewed, asking that they be contacted at the wake of their kin. The remains of the victim were still attended to at a local funeral parlor in Abucay.
