LIMAY, Bataan – A house made of concrete and with galvanized iron-roof in a residential area in Lamao, Limay, Bataan was buried in mud after a hill collapsed during the height of monsoon rains Monday morning.
Amor Bermejo said she was with her two small children in one of their two bedrooms when she felt the house trembling as if there was an earthquake. Then she heard her sister shouting “guho, guho!”
“Nakatakbo kami agad kaya hindi kami inabot ng pagbagsak ng putik. Mabuti araw dahil kung gabi baka tulog kaming lahat,” she said.
Bermejo said mud damaged the roof of their bedroom while the house at the back owned by her parents was buried by the landslides that happened between 9 – 10 a.m. Only a small portion of the house was spared.
No one was hurt.
Zenaida Bermejo said she and her husband were out of the house and reported for work. The mother works as a kasambahay.
She said it was the third time that a fallen big tree and landslides damaged their house that they have already reconstructed twice. A big tree fell down on their house for the first time in 2005 and landslides also buried it.
“Sa pangalawa natabunan ako at ulo ko lang ang nakalitaw, mabuti na lamang at nakaligtas ako,” the mother said.
The old woman said she already feared for their lives. “Tatlong beses na kaming kamuntik nang mamatay kaya sana matulungan kami. Kung may malilipatan, bakit hindi kami lilipat,” Zenaida said.
Neighbors Loreta Kimes and Alma Yabut said they heard the roar of mud. “Nagsigawan ang mga tao at nakita ko na nagbabagsakan ang putik ng unti-unti sa bahay,” Kimes said.
