CLARK FREEPORT – It’s a done deal as construction has started for the Hotel Sogo branch in Barangay Dau, Mabalacat.

Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales and Hotel Sogo executives Gus Corpus and Rey Malaca met at the Holiday Inn Resort here on Monday night to announce the start of the construction of the 80-room hotel at the former Dau Plaza building along MacArthur Highway.

Morales thanked the Hotel Sogo officials for investing in the first class municipality. More importantly, he added, it will generate employment for his people.

“I have but one wish: Be sure at least 80 percent of your future workers are from Mabalacat,” said Morales to the hoteliers in the meeting attended by Marlon Castro, owner of the land leased by Sogo for 25 years.

Corpus, Sogo’s chief operating officer, disclosed that they will have an initial 45 employees for their hotel in Dau, the business center of the town.

“We will add more once the operation goes full blast,” he added.

Malaca said the construction of the Hotel will last for about six months and “we will be open before December this year.”

Malaca said their Dau branch will be the second in Pampanga. They had opened the first hotel in Mexico town, which is beside Robinson’s Starmills and in front of the SM City Pampanga.

The Hotel Sogo-Dau will be the 25th in the country.
