CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Church bells now ring for three minutes during Divine Mercy hour at 3 p.m., novenas and rosaries are held, and the Oratio Imperata recited after communion rites in Masses every day in all 93 parishes in this province, as well as in other parishes in Zambales, Tarlac, and Bataan as a prelude to a huge “pro-life rally for peace” to be held here on March 27.

Starting yesterday, devotees walked barefoot in “penitential processions” in some parishes towards churches house images of the Virgen de los Remedios and the Sto. Cristo del Perdon.

These are among the activities that San Fernando Archbishop Paciano Aniceto identified in his Circular Letter No. 6 addressed to “reverend members of the clergy, women religious, heads of schools, archdiocesan commissions, ministries, lay and civic organizations and associations.”

The circular said the activities are meant to address “the extra-judicial killings that are happening in some parts of Pampanga is alarming and need to be addressed immediately.”

This was in reaction to reports that of 72 extra judicial killings in Central Luzon over the past years, 38 were in Pampanga.

The circular also cited “the impending passage into law of the destructive Reproductive Health (RH) Bill which is labeled with different names to make it more acceptable.”

In a press briefing, Auxiliary Bishop Roberto Mallari read the circular saying “You are urged strongly to mobilize warm bodies to support our advocacy for the Gospel for Life.”

Mallari warned that the passage of the RH Bill would pave the way for other proposals such as mercy killing and same-sex marriages.

“They are all packaged,” he said.

The circular also said that the activities were timed for the 50th death anniversary of Pampanga’s first bishop Cesar Ma. Guerrero who had founded the crusade for penance and charity.

ALE partylist group Rep. Catalina Bagasina, an ally of former Pres. Arroyo, attended the briefing and reported that more members of Congress are now against the RH bill which was introduced in the House by Minority leader Rep. Edcel Lagman, also an ally of Mrs. Arroyo.
The religious activities will culminate in a “pro-life prayer rally for peace” at Villa del Sol in this city on Sunday, March 27.

Aniceto said that on this date, “Sunday Masses in the afternoon, except at the Metropolitan Cathedral in San Fernando and the Holy Rosary Parish in Angeles City, will be cancelled to give way to this event (rally) for maximum participation.”

Aniceto also directed the mobilization of “a sizable number of participants (for the rally) of at least 300 percent per parish or approximately 4050 persons from each barangay.”

The rallyists were also told to “bring pro-life placards, streamers and tarpaulins specifying your place and group’s name.”
