FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija — A 70-meter-long cable-suspended concrete and steel hanging bridge benefiting 3,500 residents from 11 sitios in Barangay Umiray, Dingalan, Aurora was  inaugurated by the GMA Kapuso Foundation Inc. at Umiray Elementary School covered court last Oct. 28.

Lt. Gen. Arnulfo Burgos Jr. PA, who graced the activity, cited the importance of the project for the people of Umiray as the town was greatly affected by previous storms.

“The GMAKFI projects for this year were all being undertaken together with the Nolcom (North Luzon Command) and Dingalan and we are prioritizing these projects. I know the sacrifices of the community following the effects brought by Typhoon Ulysses in the past,” said Burgos.

According to Dingalan Mayor Shierwin H. Taay, with the construction of the hanging bridge, people can now cross the river even when it is rainy season or the weather is bad.

After the event, a tree-planting activity was conducted within the vicinity of the hanging bridge followed by “Give-a-Gift” in the same barangay benefiting the IPs and students of Umiray Elementary School.

Meanwhile, the acting commander of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Brig. Gen. Luis Rex D. Bergante congratulated those who made the project possible citing the strong partnership of the Army with its stakeholders like the GMAKFI.
