PARTNERS. Cebu Gov. Garcia receives a token of appreciation from Violago, president of the Liga ng Mga Barangay, Bulacan chapter, after her speech during the league’s congress held recently in Tagaytay City.

MANILA – Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia underscored the role of barangay officials in promoting nationwide development, calling them “partners.”

Speaking before the recent 8th Liga ng mga Barangay Congress-Bulacan Chapter, Garcia said the work and assistance extended by barangay leaders is crucial in development on the provincial and national levels.

“This is basic. What we have achieved in Cebu can be done nationwide with the cooperation of barangay officials,” added the three-term governor who had announced her plans to run for senator in 2013.

Mark Cholo Violago, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay-Bulacan chapter, lauded Garcia for her various projects in Cebu which had spurred growth and development in barangays, including those located in far-flung areas.

Violago said that “among these are the support and assistance her administration has given for the construction and completion of barangay halls, establishment of day care centers, providing Philhealth and GSIS group insurance for barangay officials and workers, and sponsorship of socio-cultural activities.”

More than 400 delegates from Bulacan’s 24 towns attended the congress in Tagaytay City. These included barangay captains, councilors and sangguniang kabataan officials.
