PALAYAN CITY – A village head was killed by a lone gunman inside his residence in Barangay Ganaderia here at about 9 am Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Beato Pascua,54, who was elected unopposed in the said village last year.
Witnesses said Pascua was inside the house when a man wearing a face mask called him and greeted him good morning.
“Magandang umaga po kapitan,” the man was quoted as saying.
The man, however, fired a 9mm pistol as he emerged from the terrace.
The suspect fled on board a single motorcycle, investigation showed.
Relatives rushed Pascua to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Forensic investigators recovered three spent shells from a 9mm caliber pistol.
The victim’s wife, Macrina, could not think of any other possible motive behind the attack other than politics.
“Alam kong yung asawa ko e wala naman siyang kaaway, alam kong mabait siya kahit tanung niyo sa iba. Wala siyang kaaway,” a sobbing Macrina said as she called for justice.
“Bakit ganoon ang ginawa? Sabi ko nga wala naman siyang kaaway kung sa mga personal talaga pung wala,” Macrina, a public school teacher, said.
