LIMAY, Bataan – One died while another wounded after a security guard using his 12-gauge shotgun fired at eight to 10 children allegedly scavenging at the storage area of the Grand Planters International here at about 10:20 p.m., Saturday.

Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, Bataan police director, said security guard Rudy Simpol left the premises of the company after the incident, uttering to his co-workers “wala naman akong tinamaan.”  Suspect is now the subject of manhunt operations of the Limay police.

Reports showed that Simpol while on patrol chanced upon the alleged intruders or scavengers. The security guard then fired his shotgun, hitting the two victims. Jasam Navarro, 14, suffered two gunshot wounds, one on his head and another on his chest, according to the Lapid Funeral Services in Limay. Jasam died on the spot.

Wilmar Paulo, 12, sustained two gunshot wounds both at the left hand. He was first rushed to the Department of National Defense Hospital in barangay Lamao, Limay but later transferred to the Bataan General Hospital in Balanga City.

Lorna Navarro, 35, said her son Jasam might have been enticed in joining the group in going to the compound of Planters in sitio Carbon. However, she insisted that her son was not a scavenger.

“Nagkayayaan lamang siguro ang mga bata,” the mother said.

She said that Jasam, the second to the eldest from her six children, was in Grade 4 despite his being already 14 years old. “Pahinto-hinto kasi sa pag-aaral,” she said.
