TARLAC CITY (PIA) — Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is eyeing partnerships with local government units (LGUs) for housing projects in the province of Tarlac.
This is part of the state firm’s Pabahay Para sa Bagong Bayaning Manggagawa program which addresses the problem of lack of housing in the country, and the housing backlog.
GSIS President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso disclosed the plan to replicate in Tarlac their recent partnerships with the city governments of Quezon and Iloilo.
“We encourage our LGUs to collaborate with us for the development of their idle lands into housing projects for our government employees. We are also coordinating with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development to ensure the alignment of our goals with their set policies,” he said.
GSIS aims to provide affordable and sustainable housing units for members across the country through its Ginhawa for All Lease with Option to Buy (LWOB) Program.
Under the LWOB program, it offers housing units to informal occupants with an option to purchase the property at any point during the lease.
Both cash and installment options are available to government employees. Other foreclosed units and unoccupied houses are open to Filipinos as well under the program.
In Tarlac, Veloso personally led the awarding of land titles to four beneficiaries.
“Something close to my heart is housing. Apart from the right to vote, the right to have a roof over your head is among the basic human rights. Hence, we visited Tarlac to award the land titles to our LWOB program,” he said.
Veloso assured that the state firm’s housing project will continue to provide houses to all members regardless of their salary grades in a bid to uplift the lives of Filipino families.
