ANGELES CITY – Inspired by Auxiliary Bishop Ambo David and Mayor Ed Pamintuan’s environmental programs, Verman General Services’ employees and officials of the Sigma Kappa Pi fraternity held a clean up drive along the Abacan river on Saturday.

“People here in Angeles City are now aware of the consequences of throwing garbage on rivers and creeks,” said Environmentalist Louie Reyes, also head of the Green Youth Brigade.

It is a network of student organizations, youth base communities, people’s organizations, non- governmental organizations, and environmental advocates.

t aims to network with other green movements to address environmental issues.

Reyes added that there is a growing concern on environmental issues. “This is not just an eye sore for the public but a future disaster.”

The activity coincided with the clean up drive along the Sapang Balen Creek led by Pamintuan and David.

“We are certainly supporting them. There are other groups supporting them as well. Bishop Ambo and Mayor Ed are standing up and they are doing something about it,” Reyes said.

Citing the successful cleaning of the Zapote River in Las Pinas, he said the Abacan River and the Sapang Balen clean up is a good opportunity for all the stakeholders to get involved in these noble endeavor.

“We need to protect our rivers and creeks. Let us work hand in hand to protect the environment. We cannot let the government do it alone,” Reyes stressed.
