No one was hurt in the blast that caused shrapnel holes on the steel gate, rear bumper of a car, tricycle and galvanized iron roof of the garage that serves as entrance to the residence of the pastor’s family.
Church worker Amelia Abias said she was sweeping the street fronting their church when a motorcycle with two men wearing crash helmets passed.
“Nagulat ako nang may biglang sumabog. Mausok, ninerbiyos ako,” she said.
She pointed to the portion of the cement floor of the garage where the grenade landed and its shrapnel hitting the rear bumper of the car and part of the tricycle both parked inside.
Police investigators said it was an MK2 hand grenade that exploded.
“Pasalamat kami walang nasaktan dahil natutulog pa kami ng pamilya ko sa loob ng bahay,” church minister Alvin Abanes, 27, said.
He theorized that the motive for the blast has something to do with the work of his father, Pastor Rolando Abanes, 47, who is a consultant in the office of the mayor of Abucay, Bataan.
“Naghigpit si tatay tungkol sa traffic rules and regulations. Marami siyang nakabangga at hindi sang-ayon at ipinararating sa kanya na hindi nila gusto ito,” the minister said without elaborating.
Abanes was not in their residence at Sunshine subdivision in Barangay Tuyo when the explosion happened.
