ANGELES CITY — Environmental groups in four Central Luzon provinces have banded together in a coalition to intensify the campaign for Mother Earth.
Signing the agreement last week at the Holy Rosary Parish Hall here were San Fernando Auxiliary Bishop and Holy Rosary parish priest Pablo Virgilio David who also heads the local environmental coalition group Subli taya ing Upaya, Bie at Leguan ning Indung Yatu (Subli), Fr. Rolando De Leon of Bulacan, Rev. Helen M. Cunanan of the United Methodist Church of Bataan, former Bases Conversion Development Authority Chair Felicito Payumo also of Bataan, and Stephanie S. Zamora, president of the Ako Pro-Pinoy of Tarlac.
Also signing the environmental coalition were Mauricio Valdepeñas, Alpha Gamma Beta president, and Zon Laquian of Damayan.
David said the regional coalition aims to strengthen the fight against environmental degradation and consolidate efforts to care for the environment.
A video presentation on the effects of deforestation as well as an environmental haven in Sinag Tala, Orani, Bataan was annotated by Payumo, who is also former Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority chairman and former Bataan congressman.
Alfonso “Sonny” Dobles gave an overview of the worsening solid waste management problem in the region underscoring the filing of cases for violation of RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Program Act against 10 local government units in Pampanga for maintaining open dumpsites.
Prominent businessman Renato “Abong” Tayag, Jr., who chairs the Alliance for the Development of Central Luzon also attended the formal signing of the environmental coalition.
