MABALACAT, Pampanga – The most prestigious media organization, indeed, is the Pampanga Press Club (PPC) as it celebrated its 60th anniversary and induction of new set of officers at the Xevera housing project here yesterday.
No less than Vice President Noli De Castro led the induction of the new PPC officers at the clubhouse of Xevera.
Veteran broadcast journalist Fernando “Perry” Pangan is the new PPC president replacing photojournalist Chris Navarro. The other officers are: Lino Sanchez, vice president; Minerva Arceo-Zamora, secretary; Peter Alagos, treasurer; Ashley Manabat, auditor; Navarro, chairman; Noel Tulabut, Eric Jimenez, Tonette Orejas, Rudy Abular and Bernard Galang, board members.
Delfin Lee of Globe Asiatique, developer of the two Xevera projects in Pampanga, welcomed the PPC’s special guests — De Castro and Press Secretary Cerge Remonde. De Castro was the guest of honor and speaker.
De Castro, in his speech, stressed his opposition against the Right of Reply Bill. He added that the freedom of the press was necessary in a democratic country.
De Castro also thanked Lee for putting up a media village in Xevera Bacolor, the first low-cost housing project in Pampanga of Globe Asiatique.
“The mediamen can now have houses of their own despite their meager salaries. This augurs well for the benefit of their families,” said De Castro, who was earlier addressed to by Mabalacat Mayor Boking Morales as “the next President of the Philippines.”
The PPC officers, in the same event, gave awards to outstanding Kapampangan in government, business, and civil society.
Awardees were Mayors Dennis Pineda of Lubao and Oscar Tetangco of Apalit, Clark Development Corp. (CDC) President and CEO Benny Ricafort, Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) President and CEO Victor Jose Luciano, Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson Zeny Ducut, Agriculture Asec Clayton Olalia, Businessman Reghis Romero and Advocacy for the Development of Central Luzon (ADCL) Chairman Rene Romero. The others are Technology Research Center (TRC) Deputy Director General Dennis Cunanan, Folded and Hung owner Ronald Pineda, Pampanga Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Antonio Jabier, Bishops Roberto Mallari and Pablo David and Public Works Undersecretary Rafael Yabut.
Others who graced the occasion were Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales of the host town, CDC Public Relations Chief Sonny Lopez , CIAC EVP Alex Cauguiran, Regional Police Director Chief Supt. Nilo De La Cruz and Angeles City Councilors Jay Sangil, Maricel Morales and Ben Maniago.
