SUBIC, Zambales – About 2,153 elementary school students from Subic Central School here joined the environmental awareness program dubbed as: “Go Idol, Go Region 3,” a contest launched by CDO Idol Cheesedog and World Wide Fund, Monday morning.
The students from Grade I to VI showed off their creativity in the use of recycled materials using the R3 principles: reduce, reuse, and recycle, and turned them into home decors and works of art.
“An appreciation of the environment should begin at an early age,” says CDO Idol Cheesedog Brand Supervisor Neo Patawaran, “and we are excited that schools have been so welcoming of our project.”
The campaign targets the major schools in each province of Central Luzon where there are at least 1,000 students per school.
Patawaran said the project aims to educate and inform the elementary students on environmentalism and recycling.
For weeks now, selected schools in Pampanga, Bataan, Tarlac, Zambales, Bulacan, and Nueva Ecija have been busy finding artistic ways of recycling old junk into new useable things.
Garnering the highest points from the six grade levels that participated in the said contest were the Grade VI students with the most creative and resourceful recycling project.
The Grade VI students received a grand prize of P5,000 and a trophy; 1st runner-up went to Grade V students receiving P3,000 and a trophy; and the third prize was awarded to the Grade I students receiving P2,000 and a trophy.
The grand prize winners will also be sent on a trip to the Manila Ocean Park as an added bonus.
CDO works in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Manila Ocean Park (MOP).
The program was launched last November and will run until January 16, 2009. Awarding schedules are set on December 16 in Tarlac City, January 15 in Bulacan and January 16 in Nueva Ecija.
