THE second edition of the Gregorio Del Pilar trilogy that featured Governor Susan Yap in a bit role is now showing in major cinemas nationwide.

Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral is a story about the heroism of youngest Filipino General Gregorio del Pilar during the Philippine-American war who died in the Battle of Tirad Pass.

It is written, directed, edited and scored by Jerrod Tarog, and is a sequel to the commercially successful Heneral Luna, which chronicled Antonio Luna’s life.

The film stars Paulo Avelino as the young general, Carlo Aquino, Mon Confiado, Epy Quizon, Gwen Zamora, Empress Schuck, Alvin Anson and Rafa Siguion-Reyna.

Yap plays the role as wife of one of Luna’s lieutenants.

The movie was predominantly filmed at the Jose V. Yap Sports and Recreational Park and at San Jose town.

Last August 31, around 1,000 Tarlac National High School students attended the Tarlac premiere showing of the movie at the Bulwagang Kanlahi at the Diwa ng Tarlac where historian Xiao Chua also gave a historical backgrounder of the involvement of the province of Tarlac during the war.

Tarog’s research for Goyo involved studying biographies authored by Teodoro Kalaw as well as crossing the Tirad Pass.

He incorporated several prominent Filipino figures including the likes of Apolinario Mabini and Emilio Aguinaldo. The movie was produced by Joe Alandy and Daphine Chiu.
