TARLAC CITY (PIA) — A two-story daycare center constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Gerona, Tarlac is transforming how local children experience early education by providing them with a safe and structured learning facility.

The 71.5-square-meter center, located in Barangay Quezon, provides a dedicated space for early childhood care and development in this rural community, where educational infrastructure has been limited.

DPWH Tarlac 1st District Engineer Neil Farala said the building was carefully designed to meet the needs of both children and daycare staff.

“We designed the structure with designated areas such as a kitchen, vestibule, toilet, pantry, and lounge, along with a dedicated activity area where children can safely play and learn. Each space was planned to support the daily routines of both the children and the daycare staff, creating an environment that promotes comfort, safety, and early development,” Farala stated.

To ensure inclusivity, the facility also features access ramps and child-friendly comfort rooms to accommodate children with disabilities.

The project, worth P4.89 million and funded under the 2025 national budget, forms part of government efforts to expand social infrastructure and strengthen services for Filipino families.

By providing safe and functional daycare centers in underserved areas, the initiative supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ‘s Bagong Pilipinas agenda of improving access to education and investing in the welfare of children as part of his administration’s commitment to human capital development.
