STA. ANA, Pampanga – Gov. Lilia “Baby” Pineda yesterday led the farmers’ day celebration here and gave a four-wheel truck to improve this town’s animal and crop production which largely depends on agriculture.

Pineda joined Mayor Rommel Concepcion in turning over the Kubota truck, 40 bicycles, 50 sprayers and insecticide products at the “Araw ng Magsasaka” celebration at the covered court of Barangay San Roque here.

The bicycles came from Third District Rep. Aurelio Gonzales, sprayers from the municipal government, insecticide from Butil Partylist Rep. Agapito Guanlao.

Pineda donated P400,000 for the purchase of the truck.

In her speech before some 400 farmers from 14 barangays here, Pineda vowed to give a solar dryer used for drying palay.

Councilor Amelito Musni, chairman of the committee on agriculture, said the additional truck from Pineda would make their trucks at the municipal hall a total of four.

Musni said their trucks are used by local farmers 24-hours-a-day.

“Pineda’s truck would ensure the continuous availability of its service for the local farmers,” said Musni, who added that at least 70 percent of residents depend on farming as livelihood.

For his part, Mayor Concepcion said that their farmers expressed relief over the assistance of Pineda.

Concepcion disclosed that their farmers pay P1,200 for the use of truck, inclusive is payment for the driver and purchase of diesel. He said that farmers pay P1,600 if they use private trucks.

In the same event, Pineda and municipal agriculturist Domingo Dungca awarded five top farmers. They are Francisco Celis, Victor Gonzales, Eduardo Pangan, Rodolfo Maniago and Alejandro Pangan.

Third District Board Members Trina Dizon, Raul Macalino and Monz Laus assisted Pineda in turning over the assistance to the farmers.
