BACOLOR, Pampanga – “Human touch and skills are more valuable than one million pesos.”

Thus said Department of Health (DOH) acting regional director Dr. Ben Arca in his speech during the opening of the Ricardo P. Rodriguez District Hospital (RPRDH) in Barangay Cabambangan, here on Monday.

Arca was invited by Gov. Lilia “Nanay” Pineda as special guest of the hospital’s inauguration and blessing.

He supported calls by the provincial government for doctors and hospital workers to render quality service to the public.

“I fervently ask you to give the best service to the people in our hospitals,” said Pineda in the dialect as she led the opening of the district hospital.

On Saturday, Pineda delivered hospital equipment and furniture at the Don Andres Luciano Memorial Hospital in Magalang to ensure its smooth opening also on Monday.

She said additional personnel are needed in the two newly-opened district hospitals in Bacolor and Magalang.

Pineda said at least 60 doctors, nurses and hospital staffers should be added at the two district hospitals.

She, however, stressed that “quality service could be given as the shortage of medical staff is not that serious and is being worked on.”

Dr. Antonio Ong of the Bacolor district hospital  and Dr. Danilo Naguit of the Magalang district hospital had been instructed by Pineda to give regular reports on the progress on the planned improvements at the two hospitals.

Pineda likewise reminded the doctors that “only medicines needed will be put in hospitals.”

“So many medicines are put in hospitals but remain unused until they rot. Anyway, we have a system that our hospitals can get the needed medicine on the same day it is prescribed,” said Pineda in a meeting with doctors at provincial and district hospitals.
