Gordon wins in Olongapo, Yap in Botolan

    OLONGAPO CITY – Official results of the May 10, 2010 first ever automated election in this city showed that incumbent mayor James Gordon Jr., won against closest rival, former Zambales governor Vicente Magsaysay by 42.36 percent.

    Gordon garnered 53,349 votes against Magsaysay with 22,601 votes and another candidate Jerome Bacay who got 4,150 votes.

    In the vice-mayor seat, Rolen Paulino won with 47,074 votes against incumbent vice-mayor Cynthia Cajudo with 31,121 votes.

    The total number of voters who actually voted reached 80,100  or about 71.14 percent of the 112,593 total registered voters in this city.

    In Botolan, Zambales, Nerma Yap of Lakas Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino Christian Muslim Democrats won the mayoral seat against Noel Ferrer of the Liberal Party and Juan Villanueva, an independent candidate.

    Yap who is wife of incumbent Botolan mayor Rogelio Yap, has 18,182 votes, Ferrer, 6,901 votes and Villanueva, 300 votes.

    Botolan is one of the thirteen towns in the province with a total of 31,173 registered voters.  The total number of voters who actually voted in this municipality was 26,252.

    Commission on Election (Comelec) Provincial Officer Lydia Pangilinan said election in the province is generally peaceful and successful with the exception of a shooting incident in Masinloc town where a poll watcher was shot inside the polling precinct Monday afternoon.

    Meanwhile, unofficial tally result in the province disclosed that former Department of Public Highway Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane of Lapiang Manggagawa is leading the gubernatorial race against incumbent governor Amor Deloso, Ang Kapatiran Party Hilary Pangan and Independent candidate Myrna Espa.

    The Provincial Comelec said they are expecting all the tally results in the thirteen towns of the province will be submitted in their office today and be able to proclaim the next leaders in Zambales.
