MARIVELES, Bataan – GNPower Ltd. Co. announced Thursday that it has targeted full commercial operation before the end of October this year of Unit 2 of GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD) that will add 668 megawatts (MW) of its power supply to the Luzon grid.

Arcel Madrid, associate vice president for community relations of GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co. (GMEC), said that construction of GNPD’s second unit has been completed and presently undergoing rigid testing preparatory to its commissioning.

Unit 1 of GNPD, also of 668 MW, has been operational since March this year while the two units under GMEC of 345 MW each were the first to operate starting 2013.

The full operation of the two coal-fired power plants (GMEC – 690MW and GNPD – 1,336 MW) means a total production capacity of 2,026 MW, Madrid said.

GMEC and GNPD are sister companies with the plants located in Barangay Alas-Asin in Mariveles. Madrid assured that all the coal power plants are subjected to regular and corrective maintenance procedures.

He said that Aboitiz Power Corp. owns 78% of GMEC and 70% of GNPD with the rest in partnership with Ayala and Power Partners.
