MARIVELES, Bataan: GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co. (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD)  have collected over 500 kilograms of trash during the recent International Cleanup 2024.

The sister companies engaged in coal-fired power plants here in separate activities joined the cleanup drive to demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection.

More than 20 volunteers from GNPD and college scholars removed about 100 kilograms of trash in the cleanup with the municipality of Mariveles.

Joseph Paulo Mendoza, GNPD’s Reputation and Stakeholder Management Superintendent, called for  the urgent need of addressing plastic pollution.  “The successful cleanup program showcases the positive impact of teamwork in combating plastic waste.”

Mendoza asked  everyone to take action by reducing their plastic use and the responsible disposal of wastes.

GMEC for its part organized a coastal cleanup along Aguawan Beach in Barangay Sisiman, Mariveles where 36 sacks of garbage weighing 260 kilograms were gathered. Some 40 volunteers from GMEC, the municipal environment and natural resources office and the community joined in the activity.

In addition, GMEC also held  a separate  cleanup campaign along the plant’s shoreline, removing over 200 kilograms of garbage.

GMEC and GNPD said their participation in the International Cleanup drive runs parallel with their corporate values and environmental responsibility. “Our flagship program, P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S., focusses on protecting marine life, reforesting lands and optimizing waste management.” (30)
