This was the message conveyed by former Pres. Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo to the late former Chief Justice Renato Corona whom she had appointed to the Supreme Court effective May 12, 2010.
The Aquino administration later said Corona’s was a “midnight appointment” by Arroyo.
The message of the former president was posted only yesterday morning in the Facebook account of her husband Miguel Arroyo.
Mrs. Arroyo has remained in detention at the Veteran’s Memorial Medical Center amid a plunder case filed against her by the Aquino administration.
The message read; “Your honor, Chief Justice Renato Corona, our beloved colleague and friend, we and the nation thank you for honoring us with everything you have been, and everything you have done, for justice, the rule of law, the rights and welfare of the people, and the advancement of our motherland.”
“You can finally rest in peace, CJ. May you now find the justice and fairness that was denied to you in this life,” the message’s last of two paragraphs, followed by her full name, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Corona was impeached on Dec. 12, 2011.
He was the third official, after former Pres. Estrada in 2000 and Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez in March, 2011 to be impeached by the House of Representatives. He was accused of failing to disclose to the public his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth.
Corona died early Friday, April 29, after a cardiac arrest.
