BALANGA CITY – Tropical storm Glenda left P435 million in damages to fisheries and crops in Bataan, provincial agriculturist Imelda Inieto reported to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office over the weekend.

“Napakalaki ng damage na iniwan ni Glenda sa lalawigan lalo na sa fisheries,” she said. Damages were placed at P305 million to fisheries that included fishponds and P5 million in destroyed fishing bancas or a total of P310 million.

Fishponds are located in the towns of Hermosa, Orani, Samal and Abucay. Fishermen from Sitio Bakawan in Barangay Wawa in Abucay town are requesting government and Good Samaritans to help them with fishing bancas with engines and nets after losing these valued items for their livelihood.

There were losses of P5 million in palay production and P120 million in vegetables and high value crops like bananas, mangoes and other fruit trees.

The agriculturist said the report in palay production was only partial and she expected the amount to rise as soon as she gets hold of complete reports from 11 towns and one city. “We have coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Fisheries that are preparing rehabilitation programs,” Inieto said.
