CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — To sustain the city’s branding as the “Home of Giant Lanterns” and “Christmas Capital” of the Philippines, the old Paskuhan Village site will be revived, albeit in part, with the establishment of the Giant Lantern and Information Center.
The center will be built on the 5,000-square meter lot donated to the city government by Premier Central, Inc., a subsidiary of SM Prime Holdings Corp.
At two-storeys, it will house an exhibit space, a museum, pasalubong shop, library and archives center, an office for the city’s tourism department, and a conference room.
Groundbreaking for the project was held Feb. 4, as part of the celebration of the city’s 20th foundation anniversary with local officials led by Mayor Edwin”EdSa” Santiago and Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin and the donors led by SM Development Corp. president Jose Mari Banzon.
“This project is more than just a building or infrastructure. In a wider perspective, we see this as a fruit of our effort to unite the community by reliving culture and tradition,” enthused Santiago.
For his part, Banzon said the project will become “a beacon for Filipinos and the rest of the world to witness the glitter and beauty of the city, its rich heritage and culture, and the Fernandinos’ ingenuity, artistry, and craftsmanship.”
