MABALACAT CITY — The city government has distributed a total of 65,000 food packs, including grocery items and vegetables, to Mabalaqueños since the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo said each food pack contains 6 kilos of rice, canned goods and assorted vegetables.
“We are still distributing food packs and vegetables to households as we try to make sure that our needy Cabalens get their share” the mayor said.
Meanwhile, City Administrator Atty. Emmanuel Ignacio said that with the extended ECQ as announced by President Rodrigo Duterte, the city government is set to distribute 25 kilos of rice to households right after the Holy Week.
Ignacio said the city is currently realigning its budget for the purchase of rice for the long term. This is seen to aid cushion impact of quarantine measures in view of COVID-19.
He added that beneficiaries for rice assistance are now being reviewed by the city social welfare and development office to prevent duplication. It has also been preparing procedures for a smooth implementation of the social amelioration program, particularly its cash component.
