CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — For the third straight year, Olongapo City’s Barangay Sta. Rita bagged the Best Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC) in the urban category of Gawad Kalasag.
The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) here said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council extend the award to Sta. Rita barangay officials in a ceremony at Camp Aguinaldo on Oct. 10.
“With this achievement, Sta. Rita is now enshrined into the Hall of Fame of Gawad Kalasag,” PIA said.
Sta. Rita was cited for being one of the first barangays in the archipelago to have a complete and state of the art emergency response equipment such as rescue boats. Also, the village’s pre-emptive evacuation scheme in landslide prone areas during storms was commended, the PIA noted.
