It will be smooth sailing for the impeachment at the Senate once the Lower House transmits the impeachment move, Gadon said in a forum here Friday with the Capampangans in Media, Inc. (CAMI).
He said he expected the House to transmit the impeachment case to the Senate by the second week of February.
“All will be smooth at the Senate since all the evidences would already be threshed out and be sufficient at the House level, unlike in the impeachment case of (former Chief Justice Renato) Crorona,” he noted.
Gadon said the House Committee on Justice has invited six more Supreme Court justices to testify in the impeachment case.
“So, all in all, there would be 10 active justices and one retired justice of the Supreme Court who would testify at the House. Also to testify are officials from the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the Office of the Ombudsman and the Office of the Solicitor General,” he said.
Gadon expressed confi dence that the impeachment proceedings at the Senate would finally lead to Sereno’s ouster.
“With no less than 10 justices testifying against her, who (among the senators) would say no (to her impeachment)?”” he asked.
Gadron said Sereno’s failure to submit her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth would be a major basis for her impeachment.
“On the basis of this alone, it (impeachment) is a done deal,” he added.
He said “the grounds for impeachment are so clear.”
In an earlier forum here, Gadon confirmed he was interested in running for the Senate in the 2019 elections and that the impeachment case he had filed against Sereno had boosted his chances of winning in the polls.
He ran in the 2016 senatorial elections under the Kisang Bagong Lipunan, but was also adopted by the PDP-Laban.Gadon, a lawyer, is an advocate of the Duterte government-backed federal system of government.
