CABANATUAN CITY – The forest ranger who survived gun attack about three weeks ago was shot again by two unidentified suspects while riding a motorcycle along Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road, Barangay Bangad here Friday.

Supt. Eli Depra, city police chief, said Edgardo De Luna,49, forest ranger of the community environment and natural resources office for Central Nueva Ecija based in Talavera town sustained a gunshot wound on his neck from a cal. 45 pistol.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment and guarded by policemen.

Investigation showed De Luna, a resident of Barangay Bantug Bulalo this city, was on his way home when the motorcycle-riding tandem shot him at a close distance. The crash helmet he was wearing apparently saved him from being hit in the head.

Sources said De Luna came from the provincial environment and natural resources office in Palayan City where he was transferred after the initial attempt on his life, supposedly as a result of his team’s stepped-up drive against illegal logging activities.

Recently, De Luna was shot in the face while driving his jeepney along Maharlika Highway in Bitas, Cabanatuan City.

The attack happened after Luna confiscated some 1,000 board feet of wood from an owner of a furniture shop in Barangay Antipolo in Bongabon, a town at the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain ranges.

Police are looking into the victim’s work as one of the possible angles in attempts to finish him.
