ANGELES CITY – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested 42 Chinese and Taiwanese for alleged fraudulent telecom operations in two raids in residential subdivisions in San Fernando and this city last Saturday..
Police officials here said the two raids were in response to information from the Chinese government about the illegal operations. Search warrants were issued earlier by Makati Judge Honorio Guanlao Jr who ordered the raid on houses in Hacienda Royale in Telabastagan, San Fernando and Villa Teresa in Angeles.
The information from China said the suspects call up Chinese victims in mainland China and Taiwan and introduce themselves as being from either the police or government prosecutors. The caller would then accuse the victims of criminal charges which they allegedly would pursue unless the victim transferred money to certain accounts.
The combined operations of the two groups have reportedly yielded some 50 million yuan since they moved to Pampanga. The NBI tracked down the locations of the two groups by checking the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of the suspects’ equipment.
The suspects were motored by the NBI to Manila amid plans to deport them. Foreigners have been noted to be conducting illegal activities in Pampanga, particularly in Angeles where only two weeks ago, several Koreans were arrested after they were found to be operating online gambling in a house right across from the residence of City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan in Villa Angelina subdivision.
