Aeta leader Rica Torres, who helped sitio leaders tend to the victims at the Porac district hospital in Barangay Babo Sacan said the victims were given eggs and hotdogs for breakfast last Saturday morning and started to exhibit symptoms of poisoning later.
“They were all brought to the hospital because of that, but most were allowed to go home the following day,” she said.
As of yesterday, four kids aged 5 to 10 and an 80-year-old elderly named Liway Sibal remained at the hospital. They were reported to be still complaining of stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhea.
“The doctor told us that it was a case of worms that was triggered by what we ate, but we just found it incredible that so many, including adults, exhibited poisoning symptoms simultaneously,” she said.
Punto! could not immediately reach any doctor from the hospital.
Torres, who was still at the hospital when interviewed by phone, said that the Triple L construction firm , which sponsored the feeding program, gave the victims P500 each.
