This scenario surfaced after former laborers at Fontana, in frenzy over instant wealth, openly talked about their alleged P400,000 share from the loot.
“Some of them bought second hand cars or owner jeeps, while at least one lost almost his entire share to cockfi ghting,” said a witness who asked not to be named in fear of retaliation.
BI agents swooped down on illegal online gambling operations in Fontana, owned by Chinese national Jack Lam, and arrested over 1,300 Chinese nationals working there. The foreigners, as of this writing, are being held at the Fontana Convention Center, amid reports that Lam had already fl ed to Hong Kong.
Retired Gen. Ramsey Ocampo, chief of the security department of the Clark Development Corp. (CDC) which manages this freeport, said no looting complaint at Fontana has been reported to him.
“Fontana is a private place and we cannot just act without a formal complaint from the firm,” he said.
He also said the CDC security department had no direct role in the case of the Chinese nationals which, he noted, are within the jurisdiction of the BI.
“The BI sought the help of police forces outside so our task is limited to our normal operations,” Ocampo added.
A member of the Fontana club who also asked not to be identified, said he did not expect Fontana management to report the looting as this would only confirm illegal online operations in the raided facility.
