MARIVELES, Bataan – A diver on Tuesday late afternoon died of drowning while allegedly conducting salvaging operation at a sunken boat in the seawaters near a private pier in barangay Baseco Country, Mariveles, Bataan.
Police said that Fredie Arbalate, 38, a fisherman from Bagong Sibol, a seaside sitio in barangay Mt. View, here was pronounced dead on arrival at the Maheseco Hospital in downtown Mariveles.
Reports showed that post mortem examination conducted by the municipal health officer showed that the probable cause of death of the victim was drowning or asphyxia by submersion.
Police said victim with his brother-in-law Diosdado Morales and another diver were hired to salvage a fishing boat used in trawl fishing, one of the more than a dozen vessels that sank in Mariveles due to the onslaught of Basyang.
Punto Central Luzon tried but failed to contact Morales in Bagong Sibol, a sitio inhabited mostly of Waray fishermen. Even the wife, sister of victim, said she did not know where her husband was.
