ORION, Bataan — Fire of still unknown cause hit two houses in a village here near midnight Friday that left damages estimated at more than P2 million.

Barangay Calungusan chairman Christopher Velasco said one of those damaged was a two-storey house that was fully-furnished that alone at least cost about P1.8 million.

He said that fire trucks from Orion and the neighboring towns of Limay, Pilar, and Balanga City and the assistance of residents in the spirit of bayanihan contributed in the containment of the fire that started at 11:30 in the evening and declared fire-out after an hour.

Velasco said no one was hurt.

Jeff Angeles said the blaze started from the two-storey house and transferred in the house they were renting: “Mabilis kumalat ang apoy, biglaan at malakas ito lalo pa at puro kahoy ang aming tinitirahan.”

He said there were 11 of them in the house who saved nothing from the fire.

Maria Dolores Gara, owner of the two-story house, said one of her children saw the blaze from the comfort room in the second floor.

“Nagsimula ang apoy sa CR sa dulo. Binuhusan sana namin ng tubig pero wala na at ayaw na talaga.  Lalo lang lumalakas at sobrang lakas na talaga ng apoy,” she said.

Gara said that there are five of them who resided in the house with one special child: “Kasama siya sa unang iniligtas namin. Wala kaming gamit na naisalba.”

“Hindi ko ma-estimate sa ngayon kung magkano ang nawala sa amin pero marami kaming gamit at lahat ng damit namin ay sunog,” Gara said.
