HERMOSA, Bataan — The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines announced that a fire broke out at its substation in Barangay Balsik here at 4:40 in the afternoon of August 3.
Initial reports indicated that a DICT contractor hit a 69kV line owned and operated by the Peninsula Electric Cooperative (Penelco). The cut power line, located outside the NGCP facility, landed on a non-technical structure within the substation, causing the fire, continued the report.
The fire affected NGCP’s Hermosa – Calaguiman 69kV line that services three generation plants in Bataan.
“As of this time, the incident has not affected power transmission services to distribution customers, and there is no transmission-caused power interruption. NGCP is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates when necessary,” added the NGCP report.
Penelco in its social media page informed its consumers that the unscheduled interruption affecting the areas of Dinalupihan, and Hermosa Ecozone was due to a cut conductor of the Hermosa – Dinalupihan Line.
The cut, the announcement added, was caused by the accidental contact of a truck to the said line along Balsik, Hermosa. A fire is also occurring in the same area at the moment, affecting a segment of the same line, Penelco continued.
The Hermosa municipal police station reported that the fire that started at 4:40 p.m. of Saturday at a warehouse of the NGCP substation was declared fire out at 6:51 p.m. of the same day.
Police said that three workers of a construction company who were injured were rushed to the Payumo District Hospital in Dinalupihan, Bataan.
