BALANGA CITY — Fire of still unknown cause on Tuesday morning destroyed seven
small houses in the compound of the Balanga City Public Marke, affecting seven
families of informal settlers.

Chief Inspector Roderick Marquez, city fire marshal, said five houses were totally
destroyed while two others were partially damages in the fire that left damages
estimated at P150,000 to P200,000.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Marquez said that they have pinpointed the house where the fire began but they
were still investigating as to the cause of the blaze that started at 9:17 in the
morning.

He said that in only 21 minutes, the fire was placed under control at 9:38 a.m. and
fire out at 9:50 of the same morning.

Marquez gave credit for the immediate control of the fire to the quick response
by three firefighting units from Balanga City and another one from Abucay,
Bataan and a big water tanker of the city disaster risk reduction management
office.

“The water tanker provided by Balanga City is a big support during fire. While
ordinary firetrucks can carry only 1,000 gallons of water, the CDRRMO tanker is
loaded with 3,000 to 4,000 gallons of water,” Marquez said.

The city fire marshal said that aside from members of the Bureau of Fire
Protection, personnel from CDRRMO, city police and city marshals responded.
