BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Bureau of Fire Prevention on Tuesday inspected the first high-rise building here to check its preparedness in cases of fire and earthquake.

The team composed of fire officials from Region 3 in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga and Balanga City inspected various fire facilities of the six-storey Bataan Doctors’ Hospital and its adherence to the Fire Safety Code.

Checked were fire hoses, fire exits, giant water tank at the rooftop, sewerage system, safety passage to the exit stairs, fire extinguishers and the standby generator.

The Bataan Doctors’ Hospital is the first six-storey building in Balanga City.

Fire Supt. Emmanuel Arrozal, BFP Asst. Region 3 director, said they are doing the inspection of buildings and hospitals not only in Bataan but in the whole of Region 3. He said they are doing the inspection not only during March but the whole year round.

March has been declared as Fire Prevention Month.

Arrozal said they noticed only minor defects in the building and would recommend what to be done to the management of the hospital. He said the fire safety officer will make an inspection report.

The assistant director said Balanga, Bataan in particular, is ready to respond to emergencies brought about by fire and earthquake. However, the city has to request for an aerial ladder to be able to attend to high-rise buildings.
