MARIVELES, Bataan — An 84-bed emergency field hospital will soon rise here to augment the need for hospital beds due to the surge in cases of the coronavirus disease, Gov. Albert Garcia announced Friday.
The field hospital is located at the Standard Freeport Building 13 hangar of the Freeport Area of Bataan, home of more than 90 multinational enterprises with more than 40,000 workers.
The field hospital will have additional 10 intensive care unit beds with 10 – 20 beds for moderate to severe Covid–19 patients.
It is in addition to three hospitals in the industrial town, namely, government-run Mariveles District Hospital and Mariveles Mental Wellness and General Hospital and the privately-owned Maheseco.
Of the 24 inoculation sites in Bataan, six are in Mariveles which is considered as the epicenter of Covid-19 and its Delta variant.
The project is made possible through the coordination of the provincial government and the Philippine Red Cross with the cooperation of the Mariveles District Hospital and FAB.
“Operation of the hospital will start next month,” the governor said.
Garcia also thanked the Philippine Red Cross for donating a 50-bed emergency tent to Mariveles that will serve as acute treatment facility and triage for those found positive of Covid–19.
