(WOMEN EMPOWERMENT. Women of different sectors in the City of San Fernando participate in a march held along the streets of this capital city in line with the celebration of International Women’s Day and National Women’s Month.)
Some 3,000 Fernandinas coming from different sectors marched along the major streets of the City of San Fernando on March 8, 2019, in time for the celebration of International Women’s Day and National Women’s Month.
The city’s observance, which was aimed to unite all women in this capital city towards progress, was themed “Fernandinang Miyabe-abe Mipapantabe Para King Panyulung ning Balen.”
Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago welcomed the participants for a short program at the Heroes Hall after the march. He was joined by Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, some heads of offices, and Women’s Month executive committee members.
At the program, the women were gifted with pampering services such as chair massage, haircut, pedicure, and manicure. A film which tackled women empowerment was also shown for them, followed by a bingo.
In his message, Santiago remarked that women’s works impact not only their own families, but the whole community.
“Kapag nag-trabaho ang kababaihan, aangat ang pamilya. Kapag angat ang pamilya, angat din ang barangay. Iyan ay magreresulta rin sa pag-angat ng isang siyudad, tulad ng San Fernando. Kaya ang kanilang kakayahan, ating kinikilala,” said Santiago.
As the city also pushes for health and wellness among women this Women’s Month, Santiago said that through marching, these women were able to get good exercise.
It can be recalled that the city’s observance of Women’s Month was launched on February 26 and several activities have been staged around the city.
