Resorts World Manila (RWM), the first-of-its-kind integrated one-stop lifestyle destination in the country once again brought to the local stage world-class entertainment with the presentation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The King and I.”
The musical production stars Bo Cerrudo as King Mongkut of Siam and Sheila Valderama as Mrs. Anna, a British schoolteacher hired as part of the King’s drive to modernize his country.
Nonie Buencamino and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo play as alternates for the roles in the musical play while Leo Valdez and Monique Wilson were the original Filipino cast.
The King and I started its theater run in December 2012 and RWM announced the extended run of the highly successful musical with an all-Filipino cast until May this year due to insistent public demand and positive recognition the production is currently reaping.
The King and I garnered three Aliw Awards including Best Director for Freddie Santos and Best Musical Production for 2012 and Best Actor for Leo Valdez.
The Aliw Awards also gave nine nominations for the King and I including Best Actor in a Musical to Bo Cerrudo; Best Actress in a Musical to both Monique Wilson and Sheila Valderama; Best Child Performer to Anton Posadas; Best Actress in a Featured Role to both Gina Respall and Tanya Manalang.
Cerrudo and Valderama showed good chemistry as they spiced up the rhythm that transcended the play into a heart-warming show for the entire family.
“They would fall in love with the story, because it’s all about love, respect, and the different facets of humanity.
It’s not just about a man who is torn between tradition and the new world, but it is also about a man who is in search of a higher understanding,” said Cerrudo.
Meanwhile, RWM public relations manager Archie Nicasio said Maxim Hotel’s 172 suites are all fully-booked until February 25. Maxim’s is one of three grand hotels of RWM in its estate – the others are Ranaissance and Four Seasons .
