ANGAT, Bulacan (PIA) — Farmers and residents in Angat, Bulacan can look forward to faster and safer travel as construction of the 96-meter Laog Bridge continues, despite setbacks from recent typhoons and heavy rains.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assured the public that the project remains on track within its revised timeline.

DPWH Bulacan 2nd District Engineer George Santos said the bridge project, supported by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., will connect farmers in Barangays Laog and Santa Cruz to the national highway.

This will allow them to transport agricultural goods faster and at lower cost, while giving residents safer travel.

“Angat plays a vital role in Bulacan’s food production, with over 1,900 hectares of agricultural land, and around 130 farmers in Laog and Santa Cruz will directly benefit from the bridge,” Santos said.

Construction began on March 21, 2024, and is being implemented in phases to ensure a strong and reliable structure.

The first phase, funded with P28.95 million, focused on building temporary access roads, a craneway to move and position equipment, and bored piles as the bridge’s deep foundations.

Santos explained that flash floods from the Angat River, brought by Tropical Cyclone Crising and monsoon rains in July, damaged the temporary access road and craneway under Phase 1, but the bridge’s structure itself was not affected, allowing Phase 2 works to move forward.

“Phase 2 commenced on March 7, 2025, with a P93.59 million contract covering the superstructure, remaining bored piles, and slope protection, and is now 80 percent complete with a revised target completion of February 5, 2026,” he added.

He assured that the structure will serve as a lifeline for farmers and families, giving them safe and reliable access to their livelihoods and essential services.
