‘Family affair’ in Pampanga politics

    CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Sons, daughters, spouses, brothers and close relatives of former and incumbent public officials are preparing for the 2013 elections.

    In Angeles City, Mayor Edgardo “Ed” Pamintuan and his eldest son, Councilor Edu Pamintuan, will both seek re-election. They both led the establishment of the first-ever community college in the highly-urbanized city which will start operations in June.   

    In Mexico town, three-term Mayor Teddy Tumang has endorsed his brother, Architect Alex Tumang, as his replacement. Mayor Tumang expressed his intention to run for vice governor next year.

    In Candaba, three-term Mayor Jerry Pelayo will field his son, Businessman Patrick Pelayo, in the 2013 mayoralty race. The elder Pelayo announced his plans to run for congressional representative of the province’s fourth district.

    In the same district, three-term 4th District Rep. Anna York-Bondoc is expected to endorse his brother, former Congressman Juan Pablo “Rimpy” Bondoc, as her replacement. His challengers include Board Member Ric Yabut.

    In Mabalacat, Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales has included his eldest son, Dwight Morales, in his line-up of councilors. Mayor Morales will seek his third and last term.

    In the same town, former Councilor Emil Pineda will help his wife, Councilor Liza Pineda, win as vice mayor. She will be the running-mate of Mayor Morales.

    The Pineda couple will combine their forces in helping their eldest daughter, businesswoman Cherly Pineda, to get a seat in the town council. Ten seats will be available once Mabalacat town becomes a city.

    Former Board Member John Santos has started to seek the support of his long-time allies, endorsing the candidacy of his son, Joey Santos, as councilor of Mabalacat. The younger Santos will be one of the councilors of Morales. 

    Board Member Cris Garbo, who was never defeated in politics, will help her eldest daughter, Board Member Krizzanel Garbo, to win a seat in the Mabalacat town council. She is the current youth representative in the provincial board.

    First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin will find his predecessor in his son, Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin.

    Congressman Lazatin wants his son to start his political career as councilor of Angeles City.

    Rep. Lazatin will seek his third term as congressman.
