BALANGA CITY — Per the latest report of the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office Friday, Typhoon Fabian and habagat that brought intermittent moderate to heavy rains in Bataan affected 12,327 families of 48,000 individuals.

PDRRMO chief Josefina Timoteo said of this number, 1,699 families were in evacuation centers while 10,628 families were outside the evacuation facilities.

She said that Gov. Albert Garcia has directed the distribution of food packs to those affected.

Hit by flash floods Thursday caused by heavy rains enhanced by habagat were all the 11 towns and one city in the province where flood waters were from ankle level to six feet deep.

The PDRRMO update showed the bad weather left P86.2 million in damages to agriculture.

It also totally destroyed two houses and partially damaged another two in Barangay Sabang in Morong. Three houses were partially damaged in Barangay Mabayo, also in Morong and one in Barangay Alangan, Limay.

A hanging bridge was destroyed in Barangay Diwa, Pilar and a dike damaged in Barangay Panilao, also in Pilar.

As of Thursday afternoon, flooding subsided in Limay, Morong, Orion, Orani, Samal, Abucay, and Balanga City. There was still no report from Dinalupihan and Mariveles.

Still left with one to five feet deep water were 11 barangays in Hermosa with the flood-prone Barangay Almacen submerged in five feet of flood waters.

Forty-five families evacuated from Barangay San Juan in Samal were still in the Samal North Elementary School Friday where they were treated to lunch by the barangay with rice, eggs and adobong manok. Food packs were readied.

Barangay chairman Fyke Valenzuela said 85 individuals were again rescued from Sunshine village in San Juan where flood waters rose from five to six feet.

The evacuees were back at the same school after they were rescued last Monday by members of the police, Bureau of Fire Protection, marshals and barangay kagawad and tanod.

They returned to their houses Tuesday but only to leave again Thursday because of the big flood, Valenzuela said.

Valenzuela said Mayor Aida Macalinao was in full support of those displaced by the flood.
