CABANATUAN CITY – An Aurora-based journalist was allegedly targeted for extortion by a man who claimed to be member of a rebel group, police record showed.
Jason Francisco de Asis, 46, srtinger for ABC 5 and Philippine News Agency and resident of Gloria St., Baler, Aurora reported to police that one “Kumander Dante” of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army demanded from him firearms at about 12: 01 p.m. on May 28, Thursday.
The man made the demand for seven high powered firearms via a mobile phone call, De Asis told Baler police.
“Kaya kitang dukutin, pati ang asawa mo sa loob ng bente kwatro oras, kaya kong pasabugin ang negosyo mo kung hindi ka magbibigay,” the alleged rebel was quoted as saying in the police blotter for grave threat.
The conversation ended with De Asis rejecting the demand. “Hindi ako magbibigay sa inyo,” he told the caller.
“After their heated conversation, suspect off his cellphone,” the police record showed.
On Friday, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines Safety Office issued an alert regarding the incident.
