Ex-vice mayor guns for Masantol top post

    MASANTOL, Pampanga –  A former vice mayor here filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for mayor, stressing the need to improve the delivery basic social services in this coastal town.

    Accompanied by some 1,500 residents and supporters, former Vice Mayor Jorge “Jay” Bustos and his entire ticket for the 2010 elections filed on Sunday their respective COC before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office. They walked from Bustos’ residence near the municipal hall to the Comelec office carrying the party’s local name: Team Masantol.

    “Our town has been neglected by the present administration, especially in the delivery of health services,” said Lacap, whose candidacy will be backed by former three-term mayor Epifanio Lacap and his wife former mayor Corazon Lacap.

    “There is also a need to attract investors and generate employment for the people.” added Bustos, who was also a former village chief in San Nicolas.

    Retired Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player Anding Manansala will be the runningmate of Bustos.

    Bustos ticket include incumbent councilors Ronald Flores, Romulo Guinto and Marcelino Zabala and Alauli Village Chief  Bitoy Hernandez,  Madonna Bustos,  Sonny Robles, Paz Lacap-Bargamento and Epifanio Lacap, son of the former mayor.

    Bustos disclosed that as former vice mayor, he had worked for the passage of several laws beneficial to the people. He added that he would also prioritize education and peace and order once given a chance to serve the town with 26 villages and some 40,000 registered voters.

    Bustos said he would work for the establishment of a district hospital once elected mayor.

    “We have no decent public hospital to serve our people. This is not good,” said Bustos, who also served as village chief of San Nicolas before winning as vice mayor in 2004.
