PALAYAN CITY – Police have arrested a former soldier for alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in Barangay Imelda Valley this city at about 6:15 a.m. Friday.
The suspect was identifi ed as Felixberto Lauron, 55, a retired personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and resident of the same place. PO2 Jesus Hiponia, Jr., offi cer-on-case, said the arrest of Lauron was a result of the implementation of a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 27 Judge Angelo Perez dated Nov. 27, 2013.
Recovered from the possession of Lauron, police reported, were an unlicensed cal. 38 pistol Colt Super Automatic,
cal. 22 long rifl e, eighteen rounds of live bullets for cal. 9mm, twenty nine rounds of bullets for cal. 22 rifle, one round of live bullet for cal. 45 pistol and one piece of magazine assembly for Super .38.
“The search was done in a peaceful and orderly manner,” reported Hiponia, adding that Barangay Chairman Ricardo Puyat and Coun. Bonifacio Ligon, both of the said village, witnessed the implementation of the warrant.
The confiscated fi rearms, he said, will be submitted to the Nueva Ecija police crime laboratory offi ce (NEPCLO) for ballistics test. A criminal complaint for violation of Republic Act 10591 or An Act Providing for a Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition and Providing Penalties for Violation Thereof which is the new law covering the alleged infraction is being readied against the suspect.
